STAVING OFF THE WINTER CHILL

The winter chill is upon us and for those of us who enjoy the snow and cold it is great.  For others who only embrace the negatives of Winter such as snow storms, shoveling cars and driveways, bad road conditions and more, it is probably a drudge.  We’ve decided to try and  find a way to turn around those negative views with a wonderful array of items from gifted indie artisans and vintage dealers.  The assortment we have discovered are sure to bend the most stubborn minds.

CLOTHING The custom made Fitted Cashmere Wool Military Jacket from Sophiaclothing is a serious favorite as well as the Red Riding Hood Maxi Coat from pandaandshamrock.  The vibrant color on both are enough to shake the winter doldrums.  
 

 

Check out this fab Winter Hookie Cape Coat by FM908 with its incredible styling and attention to the utmost detail.  This luxurious 1950s Fur Trimmed Wool Coat puts the W in WOW!  You can buy this beauty at WildHoneyPieVintage but you better snatch it up before it is gone.

 
Anyone would look like a million bucks in this beautiful hand knit sweater by FedRaDD.  This lovely 80s vintage dress is lovely with its asymmetrical styling; you can purchase it at RubyChicBoutique.



Talk about stunning, this 70s Crochet Winter White Cream Eyelet Dress is so flattering on.  We uncovered it at FridhaVintage.  This Vintage 60s Hippie Suede Leather & Snakeskin Skirt was discovered at NotSewIdle.  We love the little extra details like the built in chain belt.



Take a gander at these Vintage Fendi Cutwork Leather Pants with daring cutout sides which are just over the top stunning.  Add to the spotlight one killer pair of vintage Glam Rock Rhinestone Leather Pants with rhinestones that sparkle like new snow.  Both of these are sure to not only raise temperatures but also melt ice.

INDIE: Vintage vs New

INDIE GALS ARE BACK!  We’re back after a long hiatus due to a bunch of factors that are over and done with.   Even more committed to bringing you the best of Indie on the Net, we’d love to hear from you if you want to suggest a store, artist, designer or artisan that you think is worthy of notice.

This issue continues to exam Vintage Indie against New Indie in a contest of sorts.   It is a personal choice; some folks cannot abide the idea of wearing something that belonged to someone else.  They get their minds wrapped up into honeycombed thoughts about health and hygiene instead of style and discovery.   Others love vintage for what it is....a way to make a statement and to stand out as an individual.  When you shop vintage, you won’t see yourself on every street corner, you walk with confidence - some your own, some probably borrowed from previous owners.   You are carrying a bit of history with you and displaying it in a parade of “if you don’t like it, look the other way” attitude and carefree style.

Personally, I love to collect vintage hats, vintage linens, old sterling repousse’ and overlay, vintage furniture, vintage prints and pottery & glass.    Take a look at some of our hat comparisons and let us know what you think.

INDIE HATS

Here we have a delightful handmade Red Linen Cloche Hat  and lovely Wide Brimmed Canvas Hat we found on Etsy from Bonnies Knitting.  She incorporated vintage buckles to each giving them an authentic vintage flair. 

This stunning Vintage Look Flower Headpiece (left) by EmeraldDiamond on Etsy  adds an elegant touch of class!   Also found on Etsy,  we found the Tweed Cloche Hat (right) by MoaningMinnie is chic yet subdued and a must have for Spring.  We loved the fabric selection on this gorgeous hat and thought it very reasonably priced at $45.

Another stunner is this Emerald Beauty Cloche Hat created by LilyBekicMillinery.  It’s classic styling with added details make it a winner in our book!   We also loved her modern spin on this classic beret.  Her added detailing just blew us away!

Beautiful woven Straw Hat (left) with pretty velvet that we discovered at TheMillineryShop is slightly larger than a pillbox and quite unique.   Another discovery was a Woman’s Fedora (right) in heathered chocolate and pink.

 

We’ve featured a lot of hats from master hatmaker, BoringSidney from Etsy.  Her hats are by far our favorites and looking at the ones below, you’ll know why.  Josephine Baker hat is glam all the way and brings back the modern flapper!  The adorable Cloche of Red will take your breath away!

 

Dolly Doll is a bit of silk elegance while Racing Carnival is full blown over the top elegance in the extreme!

VINTAGE HATS

The first of our VINTAGE finds is this 1960s Emerald Green Velour Pillbox Hat from hemlines.  The Wolf & Dessauer Straw Hat is lovely and fresh enough to fit seamlessly into today’s fashions.

Check out this amazing vintage Christian Dior Hat found at FeistyBroadDesigns.   What a great vintage 50s Fox Hat uncovered at VICTORIASVINTAGE4U.  It is 1930s glam worthy and beautiful. 

   

The Antique Victorian Riding Hat is sure to turn heads.   It looks like something Scarlett O’Hara would have worn and can be purchased at GetLuckyVintage,  Talk about lovely, this vintage Red Hat with Hearts is a show stopper!  You can see this and others at theblackcatcloset.

Stunning vintage Wide Brim Hat is just the number for Spring.  It reminded us of lemon and tangerine sherbet and was found at KlassyKlassics.  This gorgeous vintage Brown Leaf Hat is so pretty it reminds me of a rich chocolate cake.   Found at Honeybrownvintage on Etsy; doesn’t it look good enough to eat? .

SO VERY VINTAGE: A LOOK AT INDIE VINTAGE

We're back after a long hiatus and a few moves later, ready to return to the business at hand. This issue give you a closer look at the vintage indie combination which includes vintage as well as items made from vintage goods and "repurposed" items. We have to thank all of the artisans who kept replying to our call for shops to feature, even in our absence. We greatly appreciate you talent and your perseverance. Thank you to all who continually watch for our blog posts and have been more than patient with us. We are striving to make our posts more often so that we will be able feature more Indie artisans. Some of our upcoming issues will be "A Look At Vintage Indie", "Drop Me A Line", "Pure Indulgence" and "Little Heirlooms". Each issue will have a theme that we will follow; we hope that you will follow right along with us. CLOTHING

Purevintageclothing showed off with this amazing red crinoline worn as a skirt. The gorgeous vintage red ruffled dress can be found at Scarletvintage on etsy. Jewels4pandas has this sexy black 60s siren dress that is figure flattering in the extreme.

Laurence Kazar made a household name for himself in the 70s and 80s with this style beaded dress, offered by CassiesAttic. This vintage 50s dress from Traven7 definitely makes a stunning statement. You can certainly keep cool in this cotton sundress we discovered at vintageandmore.

We found this pretty Victorian style blouse at jerksinlove on Etsy. Flashbax brought us this gorgeous 1940s vintage lace top that is just yummy. Auroramae wowed us with this sweet vintage top that is so feminine.

This tablecloth shirt from GoodEye was repurposed from a tablecloth and is just lovely. Get this adorable vintage blouse that is so bright and summery at Kinfauns. Kudos to these and these vintage old stock unworn shorts and this leather skirt, so fitted you'd practically have to pour yourself into it.

Our all time favorite was this brightly colored psychedelic skirt by Vintagous which ties with this jumpsuit we discovered at Goodeye, a safari print top looks wonderful over casual jeans and these pychedelic Mr Dino pallazzo pants .

JEWELRY

a wonderful way to take something from the past and turn it into fashionable jewelry as arieltelsa did with her Cross Stitch Ring.
